PERSONAL INJURY AND WRONGFUL DEATH: Automobile Accidents, slip and fall accidents and all other forms of negligence and personal injury practice. Do not let the current hype about the ‘evil trial lawyers’ frighten you from your claim. If you have been injured due to the negligence of another, you are entitled to recover for your past and future medical and rehabilitation expenses and lost wages, your property damage, any impairment you may have suffered, loss of function and inability to engage in your favorite activities as well as your pain and suffering. The purpose of personal injury liability insurance is to spread the risk of loss and injury among the pool of those insured. The insurance companies want to sell insurance but many do not want to pay claims and have wielded considerable public and political influence in their attempts to prevent recovery by those who are injured. We are undeterred by this effort and deal with insurance companies almost daily. We take great pains to present your case, including full demonstration of damages, to the insurance company responsible and get you the best settlement possible, but if that does not work we do the same in presenting your case to a jury

DWI: Driving While Intoxicated as it is called is an important part of our practice. Our service includes a complete evaluation of your case, advice as to how you should proceed, whether to try the case or attempt to get a favorable plea agreement and what pretrial measures are required or may be beneficial as well as trial of the case before the District Court or a jury in the Circuit Court, a comprehensive presentation at sentencing if that becomes necessary and representation before the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration. Maryland judges are empowered by statute to grant what is known as Probation Before Judgment (PBJ) in most cases. If PBJ is granted, the guilty verdict is stricken and you are not legally convicted, therefore you will not be assessed points against your driving record. If you are arrested for DWI you will be asked to take a breath test. If it is your first offense, you should probably take the test because the result of not doing so could be worse than the DWI conviction for which you will almost certainly get PBJ if we are representing you. If you refuse the test, your diving privilege in Maryland will be suspended for 120 days for a first offense. We can show you one way around this, but it is not pleasant.

DRUG CRIMES: We have been successful in suppressing evidence obtained by illegal searches and/or statements taken without the proper procedure resulting in findings of Not Guilty. Every aspect of each of these cases is thoroughly reviewed and investigated and a vigorous defense presented.

OTHER CRIMINAL MATTERS: We handle all criminal cases from murder to simple assault; any case which requires a vigorous defense from a jury trial to a plea agreement with a properly and comprehensively presented sentencing procedure.

FAMILY LAW: We handle all family law cases if they meet our  criteria, including child custody, divorce, child support, property disputes, adoption, name changes and others. Child custody is perhaps the most painful case lawyers handle. Mr. Watson has obtained custody for scores of father, mothers and grandparents. However, he takes a limited number of cases where child custody is to be fought to the bitter end in order to better handle those cases.

CIVIL CASES: We handle and are experienced in nearly every area of civil law from property disputes to building-construction cases, both plaintiff and defendant to breach of contract and tort cases.

ZONING AND LAKE MATTERS:  Robert Watson has extensive experience and expertise in all types of zoning cases having represented both zoning authorities and zoning applicants for many years. He has drafted several zoning ordinances now in use in Garrett County. His residence on Deep Creek Lake as well as his service as chairman of the Deep Creek Lake Advisory and Review Commission during which he drafted the original version of the Lake regulations, make him uniquely qualified to represent those who need assistance with Lake buy down matters, dock permits and all other lake related matters.

REAL ESTATE: We have been handling all types of Real Estate transactions for 25 years including title searches, settlements and contract disputes.
